Air Canada Pilots Association? Or, Atlantic Canadian Poets' Archive? And what's Weebly?
I don't know if it's the American Concrete Pipe Association, the Asian Canine Protection Alliance, or Auditing in the Caribbean: Practical Approaches acronym that I'm looking for. I mean, they're all ACPA, so how am I supposed to know?
Do you see the problem? Our goal for the Atlantic Canadian Poets' Archive is to further the conversation about the amazing poets in our own backyard. But, as Dr. McConnell posted earlier this week on Wording Around, with so many possible acronyms, it is all too easy for our ACPA to be lost in the hustle and bustle of the commercial world. So, get ready for change.
In early May, Dr. McConnell and I started discussing new possible names for the ACPA. We have yet to reach a conclusion, but changing the name provoked a new desire to transform as much as we can about the archive, which includes a new Web Host and new entries. When this project first began in 2012, there was plenty of room on our STU domain for the dozen initial entries; however, since the site has continued to grow - and currently includes 25 entries while 21 lay on editing standby - we realized that we were about to hit our limits.
In comes Weebly.
After a few days of researching, comparing, and testing, Weebly was chosen as the new home for the ACPA. With this change, the ACPA has unlimited room for entries, which means the call for submissions is endless and more widespread than ever. Actually, the new start means a variety of things: a fresh, clean look to an exciting project; I have mastered the Ctrl. C and Ctrl. V procedure while transferring material; the ACPA now has an accompanying, up-to-date, bound-to-be-exciting blog; the list of poets is on one page, eliminating the endless scroll to get to the "Z" entries; and new entries on some amazing debut poetry books are standing by.
More than anything, the new ACPA will continue to celebrate each poet individually, and the genre of Atlantic Canadian poetry as a whole. It will provide a venue for scholarly voices, raise awareness for the talented individuals in our own backyard, and keeps in tact the diversity of style, form, theme, and subject, which speaks volumes about Atlantic Canada's literary gift.
Thank you for Joining us on our exciting journey towards something new! If you have any name suggestions, questions about Weebly, or general musings about the ACPA, we would love to hear from you! Give us a shout at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always, happy reading, and get ready to be amazed by the work of some astounding Atlantic Canadian Poets.
P.S. We are working as quickly as possible to complete the transfer; although almost half of the entries have been moved, the other half, as well as various other resources, are awaiting their turn. In the meantime, if you are looking for a comprehensible archive, check out our existing ACPA.
